In 1745, Emperor Qianlong (the last of the dynastic emperors and a ruler noted for his keen humanistic interests) further developed the park by building new halls, pavilions and gardens. The 395-acre Fragrant Hill Park was built in 1186 during the Jin Dynasty. The hotel's greatest asset is its location beside one of Mainland China's finest green spaces.
